|Calculated Industries Teams with SkillsUSA for "Invented in the USA" Scholarship Competition||2/25/2010|
CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Calculated Industries, a leading manufacturer of specialty calculators and electronic tools and a SkillsUSA national sponsor, is once again offering a scholarship competition for secondary, post-secondary and career and technical school students who are members of SkillsUSA.
Student Inventors who want to participate in the "Invented in the USA 2010" scholarship competition are invited to submit an application that includes a design for a new product that calculates, senses, or measures variables used in a trade represented by SkillsUSA.
Applicants must be active members of a local SkillsUSA student chapter, and they must submit product ideas for a device that involves measurements or calculations relating to the trades represented by SkillsUSA.
The Calculated Industries Product Development team will award $1,000, $500 and $250 scholarships to the three top-rated ideas. $100 gift certificates at www.calculated.com will be given to places four through ten. For more information and an application, students can contact their SkillsUSA advisor.
Justin Gordon, last year's first-place finisher, is now a student majoring in Landscape Architecture at the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State. His SkillsUSA advisor, Todd Wolford, says about the scholarship, "When we looked at this scholarship, the idea that really impressed me as well as the students was that they could use a skill they had learned in our program to obtain a scholarship. This was the first scholarship I had seen that actually asked the students to use their skills and problem solving capabilities to create an idea and fill a need. This truly showcases the students' talents."
